KOERS, the Museum of Cycle Racing *****
Located in the historic heartland of cycling, KOERS offers a unique perspective on (the history of) cycle racing. With more than 300 bikes, countless race-worn jerseys and other stunning memorabilia, it’s a must-visit for cycling enthusiasts of all ages.
Daydream about victory in our trophy room, home to the world’s oldest cycling trophy (1869!); discover a bike from the very first Tour the France (1903), or see the bike on which Eddy Merckx secured countless major victories in our own “Service Course”; marvel at the yellow jersey of three-time Tour de France winner Greg Lemond; or gaze in awe at the bikes of Peter Sagan, Chris Froome, Annemiek van Vleuten, Wout Van Aert and Lotte Kopecky.
Over the years, numerous cycling legends from Belgium and abroad have come to explore the international treasure chamber of cycling. Think of Tour winners Egan Bernal and Jan Ullrich, Alejandro Valverde, Marianne Vos and of course the legendary Eddy Merckx. Take a look and enjoy KOERS’ “Chain of Fame”.
Compelling stories come alive in temporary exhibitions, such as “Worldwide Cycling”, on view until the end of September 2026, showcasing objects and stories from 160+ countries. Its highlight is a dazzling short film, taking you through cycling cultures worldwide, with stars like Egan Bernal, Biniam Girmay, and Mark Cavendish, alongside playful cameos by Mr Bean, Pikachu, and Donald Trump.
KOERS is a unique knowledge and research centre featuring over 4,000 books, sports newspaper archives, and remarkable photo collections. It is an essential resource for journalists, writers, and researchers.
LET KIDS TAKE THE LEAD
The museum is anything but a “look-don’t-touch” space. It’s designed for families to dive right into the action. Where else do children get their own bike at the reception desk? Young explorers can roam the museum with an interactive discovery booklet, while creative minds can enjoy craft and colouring activities. Even adults can let their inner child run free and have a go on our penny-farthing.
START AND FINISH YOUR BIKE RIDE
Cyclists will also feel right at home. The museum offers lockers, showers and a cosy café, KOERSkaffee, to refuel and recharge. Situated within cycling distance of the famous bergs and cobbles, KOERS is the ideal starting or finishing point for a ride. For a truly authentic experience, you can hire vintage racing bikes and enjoy a nostalgic ride from one traditional Flemish pub to another!
VISIT
All the museum's content is trilingual. Guided tours are available in English, French and Dutch.
Low season (from October to February): open from Monday to Saturday, from 10 am to 5 pm
High season (from March to September): open from Monday to Sunday, from 10 am to 5 pm
During holidays and bridging days KOERS is always open, with the exception of 25 December and 1 January.
