Superprestige Aardbeiencross Merksplas

The cyclocross in Hoogstraten - which was first organised on the industrial site De Kluis in Hoogstraten and successively took place in recreation grounds De Mosten, De Blauwbossen and the grounds of the Veiling and has now found its definitive home in Merksplas kolonie - grew from a small B-cross to an international cyclocross. After organising the GVA trophy for a few years, but especially after organising the Belgian championship in 1997 the cross grew steadily after it entered the oldest regularity classification in cyclocross, the Superprestige, in 1998. The historical context of Merksplas colony can only contribute to this.
